Dear Colleague,

this email is to announce the establishment of a new research group in
Oxford.

The IEG (information ethics research group) is a new, interdisciplinary
research group based at the Department of Computer Science
(http://web.comlab.ox.ac.uk/oucl/research/areas/) and associated with the
Faculty of Philosophy (http://www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk/links/faculty.shtml).

The area of research is the philosophy of computing and information, the
theoretical field concerned with
a) the critical investigation of the conceptual nature and basic principles
of information, including its dynamics (especially but not only effective
computation), utilisation and sciences, and
b) the elaboration and application of information-theoretic and
computational methodologies to philosophical problems.
In particular, we are interested in the conceptual foundations of Computer
Ethics (CE).

You will find more information at
http://web.comlab.ox.ac.uk/oucl/research/areas/ieg/, the official web site
of the group.

If you are interested in being kept informed about the research activities
of the IEG, please send an email to
mailto://luciano.floridi@philosophy.oxford.ac.uk indicating in the main text
your research interests, academic affiliation (if any), and preferred email.
The IEG mailing list is a low-traffic, fully moderated list. Submitted
subscriptions are not automatically processed, may not be accepted, and may
be cancelled at any time at the discretion of the coordinators.

Best regards,

Luciano Floridi
Jeff Sanders
