We will share some of the findings of our project, a labour of love and a collective endeavour, drawing from Participatory Action Workshops in Rio.
· How are favela communities using AI tools as they also recognise the extent to which vulnerable communities are used in exploitative ways by the tech industry?
· And how do these uses emerge in a context marked by contradictions, state violence, inequality, but also creativity and agency?
This event marks the launch of the project report in English. This is also an open (multicultural) dialogue between members of the Favela IA collective (project participants) and students at the University of Exeter. It is part of a Global Classrooms initiative. The event will be hybrid and bilingual.
A joint effort of the research centres (University of Exeter):
Critical AI Centre (CrAIC)
The Digital Majority Centre (DMC)
Centre for the Study of Gender Media and Sexuality (GEMS)
