The Internet - a new communicational Infrastructure in historical
Perspective.

From the information society type 4 to the information society type 5.

The first part of the paper describes the internet as a new
communicational infrastructure and discusses how the internet can be
incorporated into a general history of media covering the history of
mankind. The second part is concerned with general mechanisms in the
present days transitions.

The internet is seen as an emerging backbone in a new matrix of media,
and the paper is concluded with a discussion of the web as a discursive
and narrative space.
