In an era of rapid technological expansion, climate crisis and deepening injustice, how can we understand and resist new forms of digital colonialism? What alternatives might support a more just and livable future?

Dan McQuillan, author of
Resisting AI, will explore how contemporary AI reflects dynamics of colonialism, from resource extraction to renewed interest in eugenics, and will introduce the idea of “decolonial decomputing” as a way to resist technocolonialism.

Masoumeh Iran Mansouri, co-author of
How
to be ‘anti-AI’ in the 21st century, will examine how AI can intensify exploitation, exclusion and environmental harm, and will discuss pathways for resisting these developments.

Patrick Brodie, co-author of
>From the Bog to the Cloud, will discuss how dominant tech companies shape digital and decarbonisation agendas, reinforcing global economic dependencies.
