Assistant Teaching Professor, Communication The Department of Culture & Communication at Drexel University anticipates hiring a full-time non tenure-track Assistant Teaching Professor of Communication beginning Winter of 2010. Area(s) of expertise must include computer mediated communication, new media or social media. In addition, we seek a strong communications generalist; the ability to teach a wide variety of courses in the Communication curriculum is also required. Drexel University is a private, urban university with over 11,000 full-time undergraduates. Drexel is well-known for its cooperative education program. The Department of Culture and Communication is within the College of Arts and Sciences and comprises faculty in Communication and Linguistics, Sociology, Anthropology, and Modern Languages. The department of Culture & Communication houses several dynamic programs including B.S. and B.A. programs in Communication, including degree tracks in Public Communication, Technical Communication, and Global Journalism. We offer M.S. degrees in Public, Technical and Science Communication, as well as Publication Management. And we offer an interdisciplinary Ph.D. degree in Culture & Communication. Other programs within the department include sociology, anthropology, environmental studies and criminal justice. The incoming teaching professor’s main responsibilities will be to teach four courses per term for three ten-week terms at all levels, from first year students to graduate. Besides teaching core courses within the program, teaching professors are encouraged to develop special topics courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additional summer teaching often available. Initial appointment will be for one year. Contract renewals can be made for periods of up to three years. Teaching faculty are also eligible for promotion to higher non-tenured ranks. Generous benefits package included. Anticipated starting date is for January 1, 2010.
