Looking for book on Internet Research Methods.
I am an Associate Book Review Editor for the prestigious Journal of Marketing Research. I am currently looking to review books that illustrate and analyze the issues involved in research methods that are based on the Internet/Web (e.g. analysis of textual data available in blogs/web sites/chat rooms/USENET groups, social network analysis, e-mail surveys, online focus groups, clickstream analysis, data mining). I am interested in both qualitative and quantitative research methods. I am interested in books that are designed for beginners and for advanced readers. I am interested in books written for small technical audiences as well as larger audiences (e.g. social science researchers). You could either e-mail me the name of the book directly(sandeep@u.washington.edu) or post to the list. Thanks. Best, Sandeep http://faculty.washington.edu/sandeep
Dear Sandeep - I found the following book extremely helpful Ulf-Dietrich Reips is on this list and probably too modest to plug his own book! Batinic, B., Reips, U-D., Bosnjak, M. (Eds). 2002. Online Social Sciences. Seattle: Hogrefe & Huber. I will have a review of it out shortly, but note that most of the research methods here are detailed from the social cognitive and psychological perspective. There's 26 chapters, so plenty of material there in a variety of online settings (OLP - online panels, MUDs, Usenet, online dating, online experiments, online personality tests, etc.) Also, most chapters include the stats that compare their online vs. pencil/paper findings. The URLs to the research sites are all listed. A very very useful reference even if your brief is outside of psychology.
