Technology and Academic Preparation: A Comparative Study
For the couple of years, our team at the Univ. of California, Irvine has been carrying out research on the use of new technologies in diverse social contexts in California schools. During this past year of the study, that involved a qualitative investigation of the technology availability, access, and use in two sets of Southern California high-schools: 5 schools with large numbers of Latino students in low socio-economic status neighborhoods, and 3 schools of predominately White students in wealthier communities. Both the Executive Summary (9 pages) and the full report (165 pages) can be downloaded from here: http://www.gse.uci.edu/markw/research.html Mark Warschauer Vice Chair, Department of Education University of California, Irvine tel: 949: 824-2526, fax: (949) 824-2965 markw@uci.edu; http://www.gse.uci.edu/markw
