Call for Abstracts - Sociology in Turmoil: Teaching and Research Strategies in an Anti-DEI Era
As many AOIR members are in sociology or sociology-adjacent Please see the call for abstracts below. We are excited to issue this call for abstracts for Sociology in Turmoil: Teaching and Research Strategies in an Anti-DEI Era. Sociology in Turmoil will feature sociologically informed pieces exploring how members of the sociology community navigate spaces hostile to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). To reach a broad audience, chapters will be between 3,000 and 5,000 words and accessible to academics and laypersons. The editors prefer first-person narratives informed by a sociological imagination. Chapters will align with two central themes: - *DEI Embodied* – These chapters will highlight how diversity is not just an abstract institutional goal but a lived reality—sometimes empowering, sometimes burdensome—as individuals navigate academia. - *DEI Emboldened* – These chapters will explore novel approaches to moving forward in this new era. They can be of resilience, of adaptation, or of strategic action. Contributors are encouraged to share ideas, practices, and policies. Submission Timeline: ● April 15th, 2025 – Abstract submission deadline ● June 1, 2025 – Notification of accepted abstracts & request for full manuscripts ● September 30, 2025 – First drafts due ● April 30, 2026 – Final drafts due *See full call for abstracts here. <https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xvZn6XWLYc4hI5V-bwuOzh6mE2gnmmPg/view?usp=sharing> * Roderick Graham Old Dominion University
