The LaGuardia Center for Learning and Teaching Excellence is seeking applications for several new positions helping to lead and administer new grant-funded programs at LaGuardia Community College.
LaGuardia Community College, a campus of the City University of New York (CUNY), has a tradition of successful educational innovation. The College serves a diverse population of 11,000 undergraduates, with more than 75% being Latino, Asian, or African-American. The LaGuardia Center for Learning and Teaching Excellence is a year-old faculty development center that offers a range of programs designed to help enrich learning and teaching, including programs that explore strategies for the use of new educational technologies.. Positions available include:
Program Director: Electronic Student Portfolio Project, Full-Time. The Center has just received major funding from the US Department of Education for a five-year program to advance the use of Electronic Student Portfolios at the college. Electronic portfolios use the interactive and constructive facets of Web-based technologies to deepen learning and improve assessment. An electronic portfolio is a selective collection of student workâ*papers, presentations, projects and performances, plus student reflections on their workâ*made available on the Web.
The Program Director will coordinate the activities related to this project for the Center and the Division of Academic Affairs, and will have key responsibility for advancing the program. Reporting to the Center Director, the Program Director will oversee the initial process of research and design of a portfolio template, and will help lead the planning and implementation of a sustained faculty development process supporting institution-wide integration. The Program Director will coordinate budget and contract management and play a key role in supporting fundraising activities and developing administrative and management reports to funders and Center leadership. We are looking for candidates whose qualifications include:
ÿ Earned Masterâ*s Degree and a minimum of 5 years relevant career experience (Doctorate and substantial teaching experience a plus); ÿ Knowledge and experience with the use of new digital technology for learning & teaching; ÿ Familiarity with classroom and curricular assessment approaches, including portfolios and other performance-based assessment strategies; ÿ Experience with faculty development programs, and capacity to assume a leadership role; ÿ Strong written & oral communication skills, and ability to work well with diverse groups; ÿ Experience in program management, supervising budget and personnel and supporting institutional change.
Program Associate, Designed for Learning Faculty Seminar, Full Time. The Center currently leads a highly successful grant-funded faculty development program, also funded by the US Department of Education, helping faculty from a range of disciplines explore strategies for using new technologies to advance student learning. Faculty members take part in workshops, intensive institutes, and on-going seminars, testing new ways to enrich classroom learning, using multimedia presentation, on-line communication, web-based research and course management systems.
The Program Associate will assist the Center staff and (a faculty leadership) with planning and coordinating program activities. Joining a successful program, the Program Associate will help it grow. Combining administration with program leadership, the position offers opportunities for professional growth. We are looking for candidates whose qualifications include:
ÿ Bachelorâ*s Degree and at least 3 years of work experience (Masters degree and/or teaching experience an plus); ÿ Experience with the use of new digital technology in an educational setting; ÿ Interest in and experience with working with educators; ÿ Experience in program coordination; and ÿ Written & oral communication skills; ability to work well with teams & diverse groups.
Instructional Design & Development Specialist (Full Time) Through the Electronic Student Portfolio and the Designed for Learning initiatives, the Center works with a wide range of faculty around issues of pedagogy and technology. The Center is creating a new Instructional Design & Development Specialist position to provide additional support and assistance to faculty.
The Specialist will work with faculty in one-to-one and in small group settings to help them develop digital resources for their classrooms and advance their understandings of interactive technology and pedagogy. Reporting to the Centerâ*s Assistant Director, the Specialist will also work with Center staff to support faculty workshops and institutes; coordinate the authoring of the Centerâ*s Web site and assist the Assistant Director in the training of the Centerâ*s Student Technology Mentors. We are looking for candidates whose qualifications include:
ÿ Masterâ*s Degree (Ph.D, A.B.D and/or Instructional Design credentials a plusâ*candidates with Bachelors and extraordinary work experience qualifications will be considered); ÿ Demonstrated skills with a range of software, including web authoring, multimedia production, and course management systems; ÿ Teaching experience, at any level, and the ability to work with and coach faculty; and ÿ Strong written & oral communication skills joined with the ability to work well with teams and diverse groups. # # # The Center is an equal opportunity employer and seeks qualified applicants from diverse backgrounds.
