Andy and all, sorry for the self-promotion here but after reading a little bit more about your project I thought that a forthcoming paper that we have in Mass Comm & Society might be useful for you: Media Dissociation, Internet Use, and Anti-War Political Participation. I think it might be particularly helpful in developing your idea/concept of DAR (distributed action research) and its relation to the need for a group of people to get together to build somebody's new barn (and more) because you can't do it by yourself.
