Please direct all inquiries to my colleague, Dr. Paula Willoquet-Maricondi, Chair of Media Arts, at Paula.Willoquet@marist.edu. -- The Media Arts Department in the School of Communication and the Arts at Marist College invites applications for a part-time adjunct or a full-time visiting position to teach courses in Interactive Media in Fall 2012. Appointment Rank and Qualifications: Qualified candidates should have one or more of the following: a Masters or higher degree, professional experience, and/or teaching experience in New Media or relevant field. Candidates must have proficiency in PC and MAC-based computer environments, as well as in software in the areas of design, web, interactive media, audio, video, and within different industry-standard applications (including Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator, and Final Cut). Duties. Teach one or more of the following courses in Fall 2012: 1) Digital Toolbox, an introductory course required of all Communication and Media Arts students pursuing a BA in Communication. This course introduces students to the current tools for developing and designing digital media, including websites, blogs, image manipulation, simple animation, audio, and video. Students learn the basics of Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere (or Final Cut Pro), Audition, and Wordpress. 2) Media Literacy, an introductory course required of Advertising and Interactive Media students. Students engage in critical thinking to evaluate media, how it is produced, received, and read, and how it influences beliefs, attitudes, values, behaviors, and identities. Students learn the essential vocabulary relevant to digital media applications and are able to create digital asset-based narratives for the Web (still image, audio and video elements). 3) Interactive Media I, a sophomore-level course required of Interactive Media students. This course surveys the theoretical and practical aspects of designing interactive media. This includes understanding the principles that can be applied to the design of a variety of interactive experiences, including websites, video games, augmented reality, blogs, digital books, board games, and mobile applications. Instructor should have strong working knowledge of UI/UX, interaction design, game design, and designing for web/mobile apps. Application Process.
