The Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Chicago invites applications for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position, in game studies and mobile media. We are looking for a faculty member who will engage with scholars in the humanities, social sciences, engineering, education and health sciences around the core interests of the digital humanities. Related areas include social networks, social capital, digital literacies, digital disparities, education, privacy, civic engagement and policymaking. The candidate will also have an earned doctorate or have their PhD completed by August 2012 in Communication or a related field, strong promise of scholarly achievement and teaching success (at the undergraduate and graduate levels) appropriate for appointment as Assistant Professor, good prospects for external research funding, and demonstrated commitment to multidisciplinary scholarship. Located in the heart of Chicago, UIC is a Research I University with 16,000 undergraduates, 6,500 graduate and 3,000 professional students. The Department of Communication has 10 full-time faculty, approximately 150 undergraduate majors, 25 M.A. students, and 30 Ph.D. students in a doctoral program focused on the relationship between technology and communication. The Department of Communication at TAMU invites applications for a tenured position at the Associate or Full Professor level in Civic Dialogue and Leadership starting September 1, 2012. All methodological and theoretical orientations are acceptable so long as the scholarship focuses on the interrelationships among civic discourse, leadership, and democratic practice. Possible areas of expertise include: political communication and the interrelationships of democratic government, elections, and new media; argumentation and advocacy in the public sphere; social movements; public dialogue, public deliberation, and participatory democracy; public discourse and conflict management; intergroup dialogues regarding diversity, ethnicity, race, and gender; difference, dialogue, and multiculturalism, organizational communication and workplace representation; formal and informal leadership practices and workplace democracy; corporate social responsibility; communication technologies, web 2.0, and political campaigns; the role of new media technologies in civic and/or political dialogues; and community dialogues around health. just a reminder of the upcoming deadline: The Department of Communication Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks outstanding applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor, tenure-track, to begin in fall 2012. Candidates will be expected to conduct creative work and/or research in digital media, as well as to develop and teach courses in the theory and practice of digital media production. The new faculty member will teach a large introductory first-year course that emphasizes the convergence of interactive media, moving image, and audio production under a special initiative from the Chancellor. Candidates should possess broad-based skills in interactive web design and programming with HTML/CSS, high-definition video shooting and editing, sound design, and media compression for broadband delivery. Successful candidate will supervise teaching assistants in the first-year course, as well as teach additional courses in her/his specialized areas of expertise.
