Hi My name is Min-Kyu Park. I am taking an Internet class. As a class project, I am studying the social impact of the Wibro (Wireless Broadband Internet) service. Wibro Service will start early 2007 in Korea. I wonder how the Wirbro is being operated in other nations? I will thank you a lot for any feedback. If you are interested in Korea’s situation, please visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WiBro http://www.itu.int/ITU-D/imt-2000/documents/Busan/Session3_TTA.pdf iryou3@naver.com
What is "Broad Band" to you and in wich degree it must be "wireless"? We have a small project using wi-fi open router in an private university in Brazil. It is operated by students only and the range is +- 100mts, enought to use it inside the classrooms of the most important building of the university and it is broad enought to navigate in internet and instant message services, beside of some fast downloads. I can give you more info if you have interest. Best Regards Ariel On 5/21/06, Min-Kyu Park <iryou3@naver.com> wrote:

Well according to the wikipedia entry quoted, Korea is the place where this is being developed and pioneered. Nowhere else, yet. I suppose there's is a chance that somebody here knows something about the temporary Wibro service installed for the winter Olympics in Italy recently? -- Andy Roberts http://distributedresearch.net/blog/

There are various forms of wireless broadband available in the US, and have been for quite some time. "Wibro", by that name, may be Korea-specific -- but wireless broadband certainly is not. --e

Ciao from Italy. The first test of Wibro in Europe was done on a shuttle-bus during the winter Olympics in Torino.Basically Wibro works as a super-fast UMTS. This is the new "broadband for cellular phones" at 15/20 megabits - much faster than UMTS - and is always connected . Many say it is the standard of the future . For example, at the moment the quality of the TV signal on cellulars is not brilliant , especially when people travel high speed . During the test for the Olympics, people have navigated while videoconferencing with multiple users , and have exchanged content while watching TV moving around on a fast vehicle (I am sure my niece can do all these things at the same time). This new standard is based on the WiMax technology . A major Korean company starting with S... has modified WiMax and is introducing Wibro in Korea. They will start implementing Wibro here in Italy in 2007, in agreement with the major national telephone company. If you can read Italian, there is more here http://passionemobile.wordpress.com/2006/02/10/torino-tim-e-samsung-sperimen... ciao, Monica =============================================================== Prof. Monica Murero, PhD Director, E-Life International Institute, Professor in Communication and Media Integration Association of Internet Researchers (www.aoir.org) - Executive Board & Treasurer University of Florence - MICC, Center of Excellence for Media Integration and Communication Largo de Gasperi, 1 - 50136 Firenze (Italy) Tel. + 390 55 4237401 Fax + 390 55 4237400 or +390 550 5187 29 Website http://www.micc.unifi.it E-mail: monica.murero@unifi.it http://www.aoir.org/?q=node/133 http://www.captaindoc.com/interviews/interviews12.html ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andy Roberts" <aroberts@gmail.com> To: <air-l@listserv.aoir.org>; "Min-Kyu Park" <iryou3@naver.com> Sent: Monday, May 22, 2006 4:03 PM Subject: Re: [Air-l] Wireless Broadband Internet
