Dear David, Researchers of subculture use the term neo-tribe (Maffesoli). Andy Bennet has written on it a lot. In 2011 Andy Bennet and Brady Robards published an article in Sociology called 'MyTribe: Post-subcultural manifestation of belonging on social network sites'. Perhaps that would help. I am planning to look at my own data from that perspective as well, but unfortunately have nothing that is ready to share yet.
