Happy to field any questions you or your colleagues / students might have about the position. ## Clemson University’s Social Media Listening Center (SMLC) is recruiting a full-time Research Associate to begin August 15, 2023. The SMLC is an interdisciplinary lab that utilizes cutting edge technology to listen, measure, and engage in online conversations across various digital and social media platforms. Its mission is to empower students and faculty from across the university to leverage the power of analytics and computational social science to better understand how information spreads, resonates, and performs. The ideal candidate for this position will work alongside the SMLC Director and staff to support research endeavors across the university through data collection, grant writing, and collaborative research projects with faculty from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. The candidate will engage in project management, data analysis, and manuscript preparation for publication in scientific journals. The candidate will have an outstanding opportunity to collaborate with accomplished scholars across the College of Behavioral, Social and Health Sciences, which encompasses seven academic units, including Communication; Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management; Political Science; Psychology; Public Health Sciences; Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice; and a School of Nursing. The college is also home to twelve centers and institutes. *Qualifications and Necessary Skills:* - MA (required) or PhD (preferred) in communication, information science, computer science, computational social science, or related field. - Experience in harvesting and managing large databases, particularly (but not exclusively) from major social media platforms. - Analysis experience using quantitative methods and research techniques. - Experience analyzing data using computational linguistic techniques (NLP; sentiment analysis, etc.), network science (social and/or semantic), machine learning, etc. - Ability to independently identify external funding opportunities and write grantsDemonstrated capacity for interdisciplinary scholarship.
