NERDI lecture by Charles Ess in Amsterdam
Dear all, Thursday the 25th of November from 1 pm till 3 pm, Nerdi organizes a lecture by Charles Ess (Interdisciplinary Studies Drury University, Springfield, USA). on (Quasi-) Global Research Ethics? Challenges, Accomplishments, More Challenges...(*for abstract, see below) The lecture will take place in room A of the ISHSS (international school UvA) adress: Prins Hendrikkade 189-B. Date: Nov. 25, 2004 1-3PM Location: room A of the ISHSS (international school UvA) adress: Prins Hendrikkade 189-B., Amsterdam *Abstract: Mr Ess reviews basic issues in research ethics from a variety of traditions and locations - including the U.S., the U.K., the E.U., and Scandinavia - with a focus on recent efforts to develop international ethical guidelines for research (both in the humanities and the social sciences), including Internet research, that seek to bridge or harmonize cultural differences, for example, through efforts to identify "first principles" (e.g., of human subjects protection, data privacy, etc.) that are then applied / interpreted in the specific context of diverse national/ethic traditions ("ethical pluralism").
