Every year over 500 scholars and policy makers from all over the world meet in Brussels to discuss data protection and privacy issues. The mix of diverse stakeholders ­ regulators, lawyers, service operators, technologists, sociologists and philosophers meeting at the conference create a unique sphere for reforming data protection and for advancing research in the domain. Against the background of this diverse audience, each year the conference awards the ³CPDP multi-disciplinary privacy research award² to one paper that has been written by an interdisciplinary team of researchers.. The spirit of the award is to promote the need for and reward the results of multidisciplinary work, which advances new ideas in the field by embracing the competence of diverse constituencies. Description The award, to be presented at the annual Computers, Data Protection and Privacy (CPDP) conference held in Brussels on 22-24 January, will be given to the authors of the best paper that describes new ideas in privacy and data protection in a multidisciplinary setting. Eligible papers will need to be authored by representatives of at least two different scientific disciplines, one technical, one non-technical (e.g., a lawyer and a computer scientist, a cryptographer and a policy researcher, an economist and a technologist). Preference is given to papers where authors combine their expertise to address both technical and societal issues. The topics of the eligible papers are broad and include the list of subjects below: € Anonymity € Data minimization € Legal assessment of digital rights € User and device authentication € User controlled security and privacy € Innovative use of cryptography € Standardization of privacy and data protection technologies € Data protection legislation € Privacy enhancing technology € Trust in the digital economy € Economics of privacy and data protection € Other adjacent topics Eligibility and Rules Participation is open to researchers affiliated with universities and non-profit institutions. Eligible papers have been published or accepted for publication between November 1st 2012 and October 31st 2013 Authors should state their disciplinary background in the application. Review papers are not accepted. Jury The award will be selected by a jury composed by a multidisciplinary team of prominent European researchers and representatives from the US and Asia.
