Dear fellow AoiR's I am looking for any scholarly work on the "selfie", from any disciplinary perspective Also, has anyone written on recent examples of social/political protest in social media, involving either messages written directly on the body, or individuals holding small pieces of paper with a message on them? putting together an exciting preliminary project and want to make sure I don't miss anything thanks very much in advance Adi -- Dr. Adi Kuntsman Simon Research Fellow Department of Anthropology and Research Institute for Cosmopolitan Cultures The University of Manchester Second Floor, Arthur Lewis Building, room 2.007 Oxford Road, Manchester M13 9PL, UK http://www.socialsciences.manchester.ac.uk/ricc/index.html http://adi.kuntsman.googlepages.com
Hi Adi, You can take a look at Lara Karaian's work. She is just at the tail end of a 2 year study about selfies. Here's her profile where she includes a description of the project: http://carleton.ca/criminology/people/karaian-lara/ Good luck! Dear Adi, Your project sounds great. I've published a couple of book chapters about selfies, but one is in French and the other in Spanish. With a colleague we have written a paper in English that, hopefully, will be published soon as it has gone through the reviewing process and we are waiting for the final decision. I can send you a copy of this paper if you wish: "Autofotos, subjetividades y medios sociales" https://www.academia.edu/1614759/Autofotos_Subjetividades_y_Medios_Sociales "Autoportraits numériques. Dear Adi, I’m in the third year of my PhD, much of which considers the discourse around the selfie, and I discuss some of what I’m looking at on my blog: http://thecarceralnet.wordpress.com. But interestingly, I see you work in Manchester, which is where I live! We could meet for a cup of tea at the university and chat about selfies, if you like...
