refs needed: analysis of users' internet traffic
I'm sure there was a thread about this some time ago but I can't find it in the archives. I'm looking for papers covering this sort of stuff:
I'm looking for references about the use of the Web (preferably using web use records): what kind of applications are used, what websites are visited, for how long, at what time of the day, etc. Do we know if the way computers are used at home has been analyzed and in particular in which room they are set up, who in the household are using it, how many households own more than one computer, etc.?
respond on/off list & I'll try to summarise. thanks -- Ben Anderson Deputy Director, Chimera, University of Essex Tel: +44 7710 187806 privatewww.essex.ac.uk/~benander
Hi Ben The most useful books i've found on 2nd part of your question on pc and internet uses in home are: Screenplay - Facer et al Cyberkids - Holloway and Valentine At home with computers - E Lally Women and Everyday uses of the internet - Consalvo and Paasonen The internet in Everyday Life - eds Wellman and Haythornwaite (you'll know about this of course as you have a chpater in there). Livingstone and Bober - UK Kids go online project (see www.lse.ac.uk) But I'd be suprised if you'd not come across these already so I'm wondering if it's quantitative stuff you're after? I could send you many more refs from journals etc as this is the focus of my PhD, I've got tons, but let me know if that would be helpful.
