Dear AoIRists, As the submissions deadline for AoIR 2019 in Brisbane, Australia, is getting closer, I know many of you are beginning to think about your travel arrangements. To help you with this, we’ve now published some further travel advice on the AoIR Website: http://aoir.org/aoir2019/traveling-to-brisbane/. This page provides information on the most straightforward flights into Brisbane, and aselection of hotels within walking distance of the conference venue at QUT Gardens Point campus. Note that AoIR has arranged a hotel room discount with the Brisbane Hilton hotel for this year – we will provide more details on this soon. As you plan your travels, please also review the visa information at http://aoir.org/aoir2019/visainfoaoir2019/. For most of you, a simple eVisitor visa or Electronic Travel Authority will be sufficient, and you should be able to apply for this electronically. But please plan ahead to avoid any last-minute delays! AoIR 2019 Satellite Events In addition to the AoIR 2019 conference in Brisbane (pre-conference workshops: 2 Oct.; main conference: 3-5 Oct.), a number of our friends around the country are also organising additional satellite events at their own institutions. These are timed to enable you to participate before heading to Brisbane for the AoIR conference itself. We’ve now published information on the first three of these on the AoIR site, at http://aoir.org/aoir2019/satelliteevents/ – and we’ll add more as further information comes to hand. The first two events are “Data Futures” and “Re/imagining Personal Data”, to be held at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, on 30 Sep. and 1 Oct. 2019 respectively. A third event, on “Trust, Young People, and Digital Media”, is taking place at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane on 30 Sep. to 1 Oct. 2019. We will update the satellite events page with the details of other events as they are confirmed. AoIR is not involved in the organisation of these events, so we encourage you to get in touch with the organisers directly if you have any questions about participating – the contact details are listed on the page.
