AoIR members - minutes of AGM and 2005/6 Exec report on website
Dear all For members of AoIR, you can now access the minutes of the 2006 AGM held in Brisbane and the Executive's 2005/2006 report. These are available via http://www.aoir.org. Remember to log in :) Cheers matt Dr Matthew Allen Associate Professor in Internet Studies President Association of Internet Researchers Faculty of Media Society and Culture Curtin University of Technology CRICOS Provider Code 00301J http://smi.curtin.edu.au/NetStudies/allen.htm +61 8 92663511 (v) +61 8 92663166 (f)
A small question - I understood that enrolment for the conference would confer membership of the Association for one year - maybe I remember that wrong. Or maybe they haven't all been processed yet. Or maybe I've been left out... <small sob> M-H Matthew Allen wrote:

Dear all To confirm - all people who registered for the Conference in brisbane thereby became members of the association for one year, ending 30 September 2007 (unless they opted out). However, this is the first year we have run the new automated membership system and it is not impossible that we have missed some people or that there are other technical problems. I will ask the Systems Admin to provide advice to people who have not received account details; in the meantime, try going to the website's 'request password' http://www.aoir.org/?q=user/password and use the email address which you gave us at the conference registration to generate a new login. Hi, On a related note, I wonder when the membership page (http:// www.aoir.org/?q=taxonomy/term/52) on the AoIR website will come back to life? Being on the mailing list has not scared me away and thus I would like to join, but the page has remained stuck as "temporarily suspended" for a long time. [sending on- rather than off-list as I imagine others may be in the same position and the ability to join is a matter of some general interest ;) ] Thanks, Daithí Daithí Mac Síthigh School of Law Trinity College Dublin 2 Ireland school website: www.tcd.ie/law blog: lexferenda.com sms/tel: +353 86 8193881 On 20 Oct 2006, at 05:19, Matthew Allen wrote:

I am trying to locate research on online games. I am particularly interested in psychological profiles of game players, especially those who become obsessed with games. Many thanks, Janet Morahan-Martin __________________________________________________________________________________ Janet Morahan-Martin, Ph.D. jmorahan@bryant.edu Professor of Psychology Bryant University 1150 Douglas Pike Smithfield RI 02917 USA
Janet you may want to take a look at Fleming Seay's work on this. http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~afseay/ He focused on role of player motivation in usage outcomes and some of his outcomes were psychological (depressive affect, etc). Good luck, Irina Janet Morahan-Martin wrote:

I would recommend T.L. Taylor's book _Play Between Worlds_, MIT Press 2006. It has a chapter that builds upon and summarizes her previous work with power gamers and should be a good place to start.
