cultural histories of the Internet? request from a grad student
Hi all - I know the archives contain some info on this (and I'm digging up some from my own biblios) - so I sent him to the archives too - but a grad student is requesting the following info and will be glad for any help. thanks, r
I'm hoping to impose on you for some book or article suggestions.
Specifically, cultural histories of the Internet.
With the exception of a couple of chapters here and there, everything I've looked at so far either goes into the institutional side (DARPA, TCP/IP, various legislative efforts) or focuses on near-mythical heros like Gene Spafford.
I'm more interested in the lived experiences of actual users, especially pre-WWW. What did they do, and what part did it play in their life?
Any hints or suggestions?
