You might want to look at the current issue of American Behaviorial Scientist, 2001, 43(3), which has a variety of articles on the Internet. Ours (also available at www.scils.rutgers.edu/~rrice/syntopia.htm) shows that in overall, though not overwhelmingly, use of the Internet is positively associated with other generators of social capital, such as involvement in politics, community organizations, friendship networks, use of media, and contact with family. ============================================================ Ronald E.
