Re: [Air-L] Social Networking in everyday life
but few teasing out the everyday practice. Does that make sense? Any ideas?
By ordinary things do you mean like - - listing what you had for breakfast - letting people know you are at starbucks - busy grading papers - looking for someone to go party with - taking a picture to show that "le beaujolais nouveau est arive" ... - opps, partyed too much and threw up all over the place, here's another picture ;) ??? Maybe this is more like a Twitter than a Facebook thing ???
Hi, Greg. Mi wife Leticia wasn´t a heavy user of our computer, she just used it to chek emails. This year she opened a Facebook account, and found some old friends. Her use of Facebook becomes a routine. And then she discovered "Pet society", a very friendly online game, that she plays with our kids. Today, to check Facebook and play half an our in Pet society has become a routine, she does it every day, in the morning. Regards, Alejandro Tortolini Buenos Aires, Argentina
Twitter or Facebook, you can do grounded theory, coding, measurement of of inter-rater reliability and validity adjudication on the 2-week old DiscoverText platform. You can login with your Facebook credentials and start searching, scraping, reviewing, and coding: http://discovertext.com/defaultDT2.aspx Over 200 users so far, and initial reviews are positive. Some short how-to videos are online at: http://www.screencast.com/users/stustu12/playlists/DiscoverText%20Tutorials# or on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/texifter Since scraping Facebook raises all sorts of ethical and IRB type questions, this xtranormal animation portrays an ongoing debate in my house: http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/7660891/ Part humorous escapade and part serious political philosophy. ~Stu
For those that aren't aware Dedoose is the world's first truly mixed methods research tool, happens to be an amazing web based application with no software needed to install, was built by Tom Weisner and Eli Lieber of UCLA's Center of Culture and health, is extremely cheap, and you can start a free 1 month full featured trial immediately. We've completed the addition of the Memo System, and Project Copier, as well as a bunch of bug fixes. More details over at http://blog.dedoose.com/ In Response to AIR-L and other such contacts we are beginning to put together a collaborative social network within the Dedoose so that users may share their projects if they choose with others. It will be as simple as going to a page showing all the public / creative common projects (of which we will be donating most of our internal projects), and clicking copy! We hope to encourage others to be able to share their entire data sets with researchers in diverse fields and would like to work with the rest of the community in establishing a standard for these data sets to facilitate openness in the research community at large. Happy Coding! ~ JT
