Dear all, Could you please suggest any chatrooms-not of specific topic-where I could have access for research reasons? At the moment I would only like to see how they work and what the requirements for paricipating are. Best, Kalliopi Kalliopi Kyriakopoulou PhD cand. you could use irc, another good one is the yahoo groups chats. members of aoir have access to the chatroom in the member section, though it is better to schedule to meet people there. in moodom, i like linguamoo http://lingua.utdallas.edu/ though others are interesting also. I second Jeremy's suggestions. Yahoo's chat URL is http://chat.yahoo.com/ MSN also has chat forums: http://chat.msn.com/ Aol's chat is open to Aol and non-AOL users: http://www.aim.com/community/chats.adp If you want to access the world of IRC (internet relay chat), you will want a chat client. Mirc is free and easy to use: www.mirc.com Best wishes, ~Jenny Stromer-Galley

mIRC is shareware. You can use it for free and Khaled has not made the program crash after the 30-day evaluation, but registering and paying the $20 dollar fee (USD) is required to continue using the program. Alternatively, there are many free websites that have java applets that will allow you to browse IRC networks. These vary greatly in functionality and form. If you are serious about using IRC, I would recommend mIRC for windows based operating systems or IRCle for Macs. Those are the two most popular programs. i recommend athena for macs, xchat for X windows, and pirch for ms windows. alternatively IM clients are beginning to territorialize irc networks, FIRE and Trillian both can do irc. as an old irc user, i recognize this as the second coming of aol to irc, but such is life.
