Hi All, Does anyone know the research on students using laptops in college classrooms? Some of my undergrad students found in a survey that 50% of the students in the sample said they would not use a laptop in class if the Internet was not available. 50% said they only brought laptops to class for entertainment purposes. (Not sure how the individuals overlaps in each case, but have asked the students to do that analysis). I'd like to follow up and find out about any larger surveys/qualitative studies on this topic. Thanks. -- Bonnie Bonnie A. Nardi School of Information and Computer Sciences University of California, Irvine Irvine, CA 92697-3425 (949) 824-6534 www.artifex.org/~bonnie/

Greetings, I'm currently in the early stages of putting together a cross-institutional research project on social networking software. The research will be survey-based, attempting to sample social-software use and trends at a number of different colleges and universities. In writing to AOIR, I'm hoping to meet five other US-based researchers who would like to simultaneously explore social networks use on their campus. I've posted a longer description of my ideas on my blog: http://chimprawk.blogspot.com/2006/05/cross-institutional-social-networks.ht... If you're interested, or know someone who might be interested, please contact me off-list. I think this is a wonderful project for a graduate student interested in social networking software research. Thank you for your assistance.
