As you may know, China Information is a refereed journal devoted to timely and in-depth analyses of major developments in contemporary China and overseas Chinese communities in the areas of politics, economics, law, ecology, culture, and society, including literature and the arts. Our most recent Special Issue on the Internet in China (Volume 19 Number 2, July 2005) is now available online for FREE. The internet is the latest phenomenon in China and has caught the attention of media and academia alike. However, attention has hitherto been primarily concentrated on the implications of the internet for China's civil society development and democratization. What is still missing is the inquiry about the sociopolitical diffusion and development of the internet in China beyond the democratization frame. Given the incredible rate of development concerning the internet in China-socially, economically, and politically-it is time to explore and extend our analytical focus and research agenda on the multifaceted implications of the internet in China. This themed issue is a contribution to this goal. Articles in this special issue include: * Lokman Tsui - Introduction: The Sociopolitical Internet in China * Johan Lagerkvist - The Techno-cadre's Dream: Administrative Reform by Electronic Governance in China Today? * Kathleen Hartford - Dear Mayor: Online Communications with Local Governments in Hangzhou and Nanjing * Jack Linchuan Qiu and Zhou Liuning - Through the Prism of the Internet Cafe: Managing Access in an Ecology of Games * Randolph Kluver - US and Chinese Policy Expectations of the Internet Please see the attached digital flyer for details of the free online access and visit our homepages: http://cin.sagepub.com <http://cin.sagepub.com> http://ChinaInformation.LeidenUniv.nl <http://ChinaInformation.LeidenUniv.nl> Best regards, Tak-Wing Ngo Editor China Information -- ..........................................
