The register has a couple of interesting articles: http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/33032.html http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/6/33013.html Both suggest that the reason isn't concern for users' wellbeing. After all, if Microsoft was worried about spam, they'd close hotmail, and make their software secure. And, if they were worried about users' mental wellbeing (suggested by the use of the term 'inappropriate content' in much of the coverage), then presumably they'd release software that didn't drive people mad..
