Our intent (I am one of the members of the Study Commission who sponsors it) is to promote work that could ease the digital divide. Mary Hess Announcement follows: I'm pleased to be able to announce a call for applications for the first International Catholic Research Fellowships in Media Religion and Culture. The fellowship program is designed to further research in media, religion, and culture by offering fellowships for study at doctoral level at an approved university to applicants from Catholic communities in Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific. The program is one of the outcomes of work being done by the International Study Commission on Media Religion and Culture http://www.jmcommunications.com/english/commission.html and will further the type of research being done by the Commission. It is expected that a number of fellowships will be offered each year over a four year period. The fellowships will cover full tuition at the university, along with travel and some other incidentals. As part of the program, it is planned to gather fellows during the course of their study for seminars and consultations with other scholars and with members of the Study Commission. Applicants need to have the support of a home community, have the qualifications and language requirements that make them eligible for entry into a doctoral program, and propose an area of research that falls within the terms of the research program and is of relevance to their region. Applications for 2002 close on 31st July 2002. Information about the fellowships, the research framework, processes and application requirements are available at the Fellowship website http://www.jmcommunications.com/fellowships/. You are invited to help make this information as widely known as possible by forwarding this email to relevant individuals, church or community leaders. Help is sought particularly to distribute the information as widely as possible through Catholic churches, communities and agencies in Africa, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, where email communication may not be as widely available nor accessed as in the west. Printed brochures for individual information or for group distribution can be obtained by emailing the Executive Secretary of the program, Adan Medrano at adan@jmcommunications.com Dr. Peter Horsfield Chair of the Research Fellowship Committee peterh@pac.com.au ____________________________________________ De: Peter Horsfield <peterh@pac.com.au> Asunto: Nuevas becas para estudios doctorales Tengo el gusto de anunciarles el llamado para solicitar la primera Beca Internacional Católica para Investigación en Medios de Comunicación, Religión, y Cultura.
