However, could you please tell if there is anything in the present political situation that I as a foreigner ought to prepare for? Do I for example need to bring loads of cash or do I run the "risk" of being stuck? (I actually like that prospect better than most!) I'm not really alarmed - on the other hand, it's very hard to follow (not to say understand) the details in the administrative shut down. I have non-US friends who've travelled across the border recently, and they haven't had any problems. Lines might be longer at customs. In general, anything to do with 'border security' will probably be pretty much as normal, at least for a while. It's social services that are suffering most horribly. Unless you are planning to visit a national park or national monument while here, you probably won't notice much difference. Some border agents may be a little less hospitable than usual because they are being forced to work without pay at present, but most will be their normal, cheerful(?) selves. However, if our "leaders" allow the country to go into default, we have no idea what will happen. The extension of funding to make Rocky Mtn National Park open ends before AoIR meets though, so unless the govt reopens I wouldn't count on that. Stine, I don't think you and other international visitors have any reason for concern. We will see a lot more after the 17th but I'd expect if anything, your money's going to be worth even more. Thanks for bringing this forward for discussion Stine. I was also wondering about this as a Canadian traveling south. The only extra thing I would like to visit besides considering bringing my skis is the Museum of Art and may be the science and tech museum and the park it's in.
