We sought to formulate a policy on plagiarism recently. I suggested perhaps we could copy one from somebody :) Vivas and the examination system are supposed to detect whether the student has understood the subject matter and surely that is the real issue. In many cases essays will contain other people's ideas. If they have *understood* those ideas surely that was the point.
