Re: [Air-L] question re research on hostility towards women in online communities
Um, I dont recall seeing anyone refer Susan Herring's work since the 1990s on gendered discourse in CMC (forceful men on discussion lists: good, robust; forceful women: bad, shrill etc)? cheers Mathieu On 11/22/11, elham gheytanchi <elhamucla@hotmail.com> wrote:

Hi Elham! Hello all! Great compilation here. Very useful for me as well. I will add to it!
I take an intersectional look at the (oppressive) realities of women of color in xbox live (very similar to Tracy). Here is the link to my unpublished dissertation Deviant Bodies Resisting Online: Examining the Intersecting Realities of Women of Color in Xbox Live: http://repository.asu.edu/attachments/56548/content/Gray_asu_0010E_10480.pdf.
A portion of this work was recently accepted for publication (AoIR special issue) into Information Communication & Society: Gray, K. (2012, Forthcoming). Intersecting Oppressions and Online Communities: Examining the Experiences of Women of Color in Xbox Live. Information, Communication, and Society, AoIR Special Issue
Hope this helps! Good luck with this!

Hello All:
I was wondering if there is research about hostility/ (verbal) violence against women in online communities?
I am particularly interested in this question "is Farsi (Persian) speaking online communities, such as blog sphere and Persian social media are hostile towards women/ female bloggers and online participants?"
I would greatly appreciate any feedback. You can email me directly.
Thank you,
