Hi Gillies, J. & Cailliau, R. 2000, How the Web was Born, Oxford University Press, Oxford. is an interesting and thorough insider's account of the development of the web -- with chapter 1 devoted to the history of the internet itself. It also has a useful 10-page timeline for the period 1935-1999 Co-author Robert Cailliau worked at CERN from 1974 onwards, joining Tim Berners-Lee WWW project in 1990. Cheers Francesca da Rimini
