Chimera PhD Programme October 2007 intake
Dear Colleagues I am pleased to announce that Chimera, the Institute for Social and Technical Research at the University of Essex is now accepting applications for places on its 2007 PhD programme (October intake). We are open to applications from prospective students who wish to study the interactions between technologies and society in a lively post-disciplinary research environment. Candidates must exhibit the potential to excel in incisive and innovative thinking which can help to understand the social and technical dynamics of societal change and/or develop and test new societal tools and applications. Our research activities and students are clustered into two groups but cross-group projects and student research programmes are actively encouraged. It is our practice at Chimera to enable research students to undertake 1-2 days per week paid research work on projects relevant to their PhD if they and their supervisors agree and if the funds are available. This provides invaluable project collaborative research experience and often involves working closely with industrial or public sponsors. For further information please see: http://www.essex.ac.uk/chimera/phd.html or: http://www.essex.ac.uk/chimera/2006-Phd-Programme.pdf Please feel free to cross-post to appropriate fora and I would be very grateful if this announcement could be brought to the attention of suitable Masters level students. ---- Dr Ben Anderson Deputy Director, Chimera the University of Essex's Institute for Social and Technical Research +44 (0) 7710 187 806 Homepage: http://www.essex.ac.uk/chimera/team/bena.html Chimera blog: http://istr.wordpress.com/
