international internet usage?
Hi -- I am looking for any sources comparable to the Pew site (for instance this chart: http://pewinternet.org/trends/Internet_Activities_6.15.07.htm) that track simple CURRENT statistics about how many people use email, im, the web, and other modes of online interaction. I'd like to be able to teach and report on non-US populations. I am aware of these two sites: http://www.nielsen-netratings.com/resources.jsp?section=pr_netv&nav=1 which provides some information about web use in 10 different countries and http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm which reports on percentages of world populations using the internet at all but neither break it down to compare which things they do on line or how many do each online activity. Thanks in advance for any links, if any exist. Nancy

Hi Nancy, Here are two sites that you may find helpful for a variety of data on Central & Eastern European countries: http://www.gemius.com and http://www.rankingcee.com They have a variety of data (including some of the data you might be looking for). They are updated fairly often (the latter site is updated I believe weekly) and have the results of different studies on a variety of subjects published (or at least highlighted) often. They cover most of Central & Eastern Europe, including all of the "new" EU members as well as Ukraine and Russia. All the best, Chris Modzelewski PS: As a "disclaimer", I'm the founder and majority shareholder of Gemius, the research company that runs both of the sites I mention above. Nancy Baym wrote:

Nancy The OII's 'The Internet in Britain' is available free online, providing at least one national base for comparison. It is at: <http://www.oii.ox.ac.uk/microsites/oxis/> Bill On 21 Aug 2007, at 21:52, Nancy Baym wrote:

Hi Nancy, http://www.juxtconsult.com/ has some initial study and research for internet usage in India. .pdf reports for the last three years are available for a free download. I have used their numbers for my own dissertation. Hope it helps. Nishant On 8/22/07, richard.ling@telenor.com <richard.ling@telenor.com> wrote:

Hello, there is an other study with regards to Indian Internet usage http://www.iamai.in/research_index.php3 that might be interesting. A very profound study of the Indian Internet and Mobile association. With regards to European countries - the Eurobarometer once captured internet usage, but I do not know if that is still the case. http://ec.europa.eu/public_opinion/archives/eb/eb64/eb64_en.htm Regards Nicole MA. Ofcom have just released UK data; it's not quite as easy to read as the Pew data ... http://www.ofcom.org.uk/research/cm/cmr07/cm07_print/ However, quite a few newspapers have done summaries of the key points: http://business.guardian.co.uk/print/0,,330618645-108725,00.html Emma -- Blog: http://userweb.port.ac.uk/~duke-wie/blog/
