The Department of Communication at UMass Amherst, home to leading researchers in the areas of Culture and Social Interaction, Performance Studies, Film Studies, and Media Culture and Technology, invites applications for its Ph.D. program. The application deadline is January 2nd, 2025 for Fall 2025 admission. Our program offers five years of funding for part-time assistantships in teaching and research, and includes unionized employment with health, dental, and vision insurance. We encourage applications from MA and BA students who demonstrate excellence in research. Our prominent faculty and curious students research media, technology, and social interaction at global, national, institutional, group, and interpersonal levels.
