School of Journalism and Communication (Communication and Media Studies) – Assistant Professor – Applications Closing Date: November 6, 2015 The School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University invites applications from qualified candidates for a preliminary (tenure track) appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in Visual Media and Communication, to begin July 1, 2016. Deadline for the receipt of applications is Friday, November 6, 2015. Candidates should demonstrate strong potential to become leading researchers in any subfield of visual media and communication. We invite applications from scholars whose research emphasizes the history, production, circulation, regulation, or uses of visual media. Candidates may work in a variety of areas, including but not limited to: Internet culture, video games, art, photography, film, television, animation, information visualization, or digital imaging and design. The successful candidate will be expected to develop new undergraduate and graduate courses in visual media and communication, participate broadly in teaching and mentoring of students, and contribute actively to the research and administrative cultures of the School. Candidates who are able to teach or advise students in the use of creative research methods and/or visual media production are particularly desirable. Qualified candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Communication or a related discipline by the date of the appointment, however outstanding ABD candidates who are close to completion may also be considered. Candidates should show evidence of theoretical and methodological sophistication, possess an emerging publication record and demonstrate potential to attract external funding, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
