Social media data collection tools
Hi all, This is just a quick note to let everyone know that I've migrated my list of social media data collection tools away from Google Docs and onto Wikidot. I've also removed all dead links: http://socialmediadata.wikidot.com/ The new version looks much nicer--unfortunately some jerks had defaced the Google Doc (under their real names too ;-P), which I always knew was a possibility but never expected with such a niche topic. Anyway, potential contributors now have to create a Wikidot account first, which is kind of annoying but should cut down on abuse. If necessary I'll lock it down, but I'd like to leave it open for as long as possible. Best, ~DEEN -- Deen Freelon, Ph.D. Assistant Professor American University School of Communication Office: McKinley 325 http://dfreelon.org/ @dfreelon

Thank you for the update! I originally found Tweet Archivist through your docs version of this list and I've found it invaluable for collecting hashtag threads. Yes, I have to pay for Tweet Archivist, but it's amazing. ~~Lisa ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lisa M. Heinz PhD Student E.W. Many thanks Deen. I'm sure this is going to help many researchers around the world. A suggestion: In the list can you highlight the services that are free (like TAGS)? That will help researchers without any substantial financial support to identify a free resource for their research easily. Thanks again. Cherry Mathew Philipose

Generally most of the tools outside the "Social data vendors" section at least have a freemium option. The whole list really needs to be converted to a rankable table format with a full complement of metadata, and of course anyone who has the time is welcome to contribute that. ~DEEN On 11/25/2015 4:54 AM, Cherry Mathew Philipose wrote:
