Looking for recommendatio of Apps for doing Ethnography
Howdy! I am looking for recommendations of apps for doing ethnographic work. I am mapping out a new project and have found there are a growing number of research apps out there for doing qualitative data collection in the field. I am wondering what experience AoIR folks have had with these tools, and which ones seem to be the best and most versatile, especially for recording field notes, organizing data and if they seem to work best when using tablets of phone platforms. Hi Heidi, You may find some useful apps for your ethnography here: http://www.nova.edu/ssss/QR/apps.html During my ethnography I didn't use any apps per se, but I did use the Google Glass which turned out to be an amazing tool for taking photos and recording interviews... specially in areas such as the slums of Brazil (my case). I have worn it publicly during my fieldwork and the IR13 meeting in Denver. To my surprise, my informants in the Favelas were quite comfortable with me wearing it, they were also really interested in the gadget... but at IR13 I was called names... go figure :-) On Fri, Jan 3, 2014 at 7:41 AM, Heidi Campbell <hcampbe1@yahoo.co.uk> wrote:

Heidi, you'd probably appreciate the "Tools We Use" series over at the EthnographyMatters blog (right now there are 5 in-depth posts): http://ethnographymatters.net/category/tools-we-use/ --- Alexander Leavitt PhD Student USC Annenberg School for Communication & Journalism http://alexleavitt.com Twitter: @alexleavitt <http://twitter.com/alexleavitt> On Mon, Jan 6, 2014 at 3:28 PM, David Nemer <dnemer@indiana.edu> wrote:
