Does anyone know of research or opinion pieces that have discussed the positive and negative effects of the internet on law enforcement activities? (Investigations, confessions, leads etc) Thanks in advance, Reid ________________________________ Dr. W. Reid Cornwell The Center For Internet Research P.O. Are you referring to the LEO activities or cases in general? I'm sure there is a ton of legal work on the latter --eg "criminal procedure" and other court records/legal opinions that can be found in legal search queries. Regarding more operational/investigative activities involving the Internet, I will have to dig through my library to find some of them. I've encountered many (and written some) opinion pieces from "folks who know well" the matter at hand, but not much in the way of formal academic work comes to mind quickly tonight. Still, for both areas, a good place to start might be the Berkman Center for Internet & Society at Harvard Law School or the Stanford Center for Internet and Society. Additionally, nonprofit groups like the EFF and CPSR have troves of information pertaining to law enforcement activities involving Internet crimes. I'm sure there are more, but it's late here, and that' just what I could come up with before signing off for the night. If/as I come up with more sources, I'll compile them and send along. My interest is directed towards how the internet has hindered or helped investigative processes. Anecdotal information and informed opinions would be helpful. We are trying to identify cross-disciplinary methods that would suggest empirically derived praxis.
