Re: [Air-L] Web Studies instruction
Hi Gordon, While not "Web Studies" per se, the university and department where I teach, Media & Film, at The New School offers a completely online MA in Media Studies option, where you can take several theory and production courses in new media (several of which I teach). I am also the advisor to the 75 or so students in the program that are completing their MA completely online, so if you want to discuss further, feel free to email me directly at The New School at berkmanr@newschool.edu Best of luck Robert Berkman Associate Professor Media & Film The New School New York, NY
Hello air-l!
This is my first post, so please bear with me if it's not perfect. I checked the archives and couldn't find my question answered previously, so here it goes:
I am a part-time grad student in the communications field at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kansas. I've started to have a strong interest in incorporating the study of the culture and uses of the web and web media in my degree, however, there doesn't seem to be much coursework here nor available for online study programs, by which I mean distance learning programs for credit. My degree adviser has given me free rein to locate accredited classes, but so far I've found very little. I am aware of Dr Baym's courses at the University of Kansas, as well as a few others a bit farther away, but want to be sure there is nothing closer or online before my wife and I begin considering a relocation for me to continue my studies. I realize that this field is just getting off the ground in many ways, and so schools are scrambling to catch up, but I'm really hoping to hear of some more options to consider.
Thanks!

Not to pile on :). I teach in a MS in Interactive Communication program at Quinnipiac University that is offered in both online and hybrid format. Most of the coursework is professionally oriented, but our electives, many of which are taught online, often have a more theoretical bent. I taught a seminar on the social effects of search engines this semester, for example, and my colleague Sharon Kleinman taught a seminar on mobile devices. Our website is atrocious, of course, but it may be found here: http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x458.xml Or drop me a note for more information.
