POST DOCTORAL FELLOW Program in Science, Technology and Society
To join a team studying virtual environments and professional identities.
The fellow will work with five MIT faculty in anthropology, science studies, psychology, and history who have come together to study science and engineering professions in a culture of virtual representation.
The fellow will be responsible for the organization of two weeklong workshops. In addition, the fellow will organize a yearlong seminar series for graduate students, faculty, and visiting scholars on the current transformations of personal and professional identity among scientists and engineers. The fellow will also conduct research on how a range of disciplines are engaging with virtuality as a research environment and coordinate the preparation and submission of a major research proposal.
This is a 15 month appointment funded under a grant from the National Science Foundation. The appointment will begin on June 15, 2003.
REQUIREMENTS: A PhD in social sciences, history, design, or a closely related field. Strong understanding of virtual environments and a general understanding of professional science and/or engineering environments. Must be able to work effectively with faculty, graduate students and senior staff.
