* The University of North Carolina’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media invites applications to its MA and doctoral programs for fall 2020 admission. In addition to our long-standing specializations in health communication; media processes and production; political, social, and strategic communication; media uses and effects; and media law and policy, we are especially excited about our newly-launched Center for Information, Technology, and Public Life (CITAP). Master’s and PhD students interested in misinformation, partisanship, polarization, propaganda, platforms, political institutions, journalism, and related issues will have opportunities to collaborate on interdisciplinary research projects led by the center’s four principal researchers: * Deen Freelon, associate professor, Hussman School * Daniel Kreiss, associate professor, Hussman School * Alice Marwick, assistant professor, Department of Communication * Zeynep Tufekci, associate professor, School of Information and Library Sciences Graduate members of CITAP will have access to a wide variety of resources, including generous travel funding, privileged digital datasets, a newly refurbished dedicated lab space, workshops and reading groups, and faculty and graduate students from the School of Information and Library Sciences and the Department of Communication. In addition to the principal researchers, potential collaborators will include postdoctoral researchers, visiting scholars, affiliate faculty, a dedicated programmer, and a new core faculty member who will join us in August 2020. Applicants to the Hussman School of Journalism and Media’s doctoral program will be considered for CITAP affiliation. The Hussman School offers generous competitive funding packages including the prestigious Roy H. Park fellowships which guarantee three years of funding, including tuition waivers, a generous stipend, and technology and research funding. The Hussman School features an approximately 80% placement rate in tenure-track and postdoctoral positions and over $1M in external funding annually.
