Network analysis of media industry
Dear AoIR community, Are any of you aware of studies utilising network methodologies to examine the media industry? I'm trying to dig into the subject of corporate media bias from a network perspective, but so far I haven't found much on the topic in literature. I found numerous network analyses of user behaviour on social media, yet very little research concerning the news sources themselves. I'd greatly appreciate any help! Best, Krzysztof Cybulski BSc Data Science and Knowledge Engineering, Universiteit Maastricht
Hello Krzysztof, Rodrigo Gomez and I have been using network analysis techniques to map interlocks between some of the large media companies, especially in light of recent mergers and acquisitions. We've presented some findings at conferences recently, but nothing is published yet. In fact, we are preparing to submit right now. I'm happy to share what we have, if you think it would be of interest. Cheers! Ben Birkinbine Benjamin J. Thank you Krzysztof Cybulski + ALL, I will be interested in some of the tools/methodologies for network analysis to explore community building on WhatsApp/Facebook. Please if you do have kindly share with us. Any previous work done in this area will also be appreciated. Thank you. This is quite ancient, but was an early network-based study of mergers and acquisitions in the then brand-new arena of convergence between telecommunications and media (online news via videotex).
