Colleagues, with apologies for cross posting, a kind invitation to the following online symposium on the value chains of Google's search engine (and how to regulate them). Platforms and Society journal and AdTech Research Project present an Online Symposium How to Approach and Regulate Google? A New Perspective 12 May 2025 | 9:00–10:30 AM (EST) / 3-4.30 PM (CEST) ________________________________ Presentation by Koray Caliskan (The New School) Donald MacKenzie (The University of Edinburgh) Addie McGowan (The University of Edinburgh) ________________________________ Discussion with Kylie Jarrett (University College Dublin) Devika Narayan (University of Bristol) Gillian Tett (University of Cambridge) ________________________________ As part of their ESRC-funded, four-year Ad-Tech project on online advertising, Koray Caliskan, Donald MacKenzie, and Addie McGowan present their recent publication: “Prodexchange: Digital–Industrial Economization in the Google Search Supply Chain”, now featured in Platforms and Society. The authors offer a novel conceptual lens—Superplatform—to understand the global ad economy. Their analysis reframes Google's search operations not as a single engine, but as a complex computational supply chain. They present a new way to describe and regulate superplatforms like Google.
