Re: [Air-l] AoIR Conference -- call for chairs
I still need volunteers to chair sessions. Please email me if you can chair sessions. It's an easy way to get to know other AoIR researchers, so step up all doctoral students as well! Here are notes Chair Duties ... It's also good if chairs can contact authors ahead of the conference by email to confirm how the session will progress. Chairs of sessions should arrive at the room at least 20 minutes before the start of the session. Make yourself visible to the speakers. The Chair’s job is to introduce the speakers (briefly), to keep the speakers on time, and to help manage questions. It is very important to keep speakers on time. With 4 speakers in a session, talks of 15 minutes are recommended; with 3 speakers, talks of 20 minutes are recommended. The Chair should decide with the speakers whether questions will be taken after each talk or held to the end. Whatever arrangement is chosen, it is the responsibility of the Chair to manage the questions so these do not cut into the time of the next speaker and do not extend the session time. Please start and end the session on time. /Caroline ---------------------------------------- Caroline Haythornthwaite Associate Professor Graduate School of Library and Information Science, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign 501 East Daniel St., Champaign IL 61820
