Literature on Seeding Online Communities
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with any academic literature that discusses seeding forums within online communities? By seeding, I mean posting messages from community moderators to get conversations going within online communities. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Laurie Buis Post Doctoral Fellow at Veterans Affairs Health Services Research and Development Service buisl@msu.edu
Laurie, I'm not familiar with any literature and am looking forward to others posting some good refs but you might expand your search to include "trolls." I present an example of an approach for generating optimal messages to seed or change the discussion in an online community: Danowski, J. A. (1982). A network-based content analysis methodology for computer-mediated communication: An illustration with a computer bulletin board, in M. Burgoon (Ed.), Communication Yearbook 5 (pp. 904-925).
