Digital divide in Canada and worldwide
Hello, I am building a resource website for our undergraduate students taking an STAS course on information technologies and society at the University of Calgary. I was wondering if you know of any good online resources on digital divide, in Canada and worldwide. Short videos, pages compiled by academics, blogs on the topic - any ideas would be welcomed. Thank you, Delia Dumitrica PhD Candidate & Research Assistant Faculty of Communication and Culture University of Calgary
Delia, One resource that might be of interest: http://www.elon.edu/e-web/predictions/internet_governance_film_2006.xhtml A documentary film from the first Internet Governance Forum, Athens, Greece Oct/Nov 2006 Bridging the Digital Divide This 13-minute documentary film offers an introductory look at major issues tied to the diffusion of the internet. It is built from interviews conducted in 2006 with international internet stakeholders from 18 different nations at the world's first Internet Governance Forum in Athens, Greece. Dear Delia, I humbly suggest my own site http://ictlogy.net If you browse the wiki http://wiki.ictlogy.net You'll find there a (good?) collection of resouces about measuring the information society, the digital divide and so, most of them under the "ICT Data" Category http://ictlogy.net/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Data_ICT If what you want is not data but documents, then my bibiographical collection: http://bibciter.ictlogy.net And again, browse the categories http://ictlogy.net/bibciter/reports/types_categories_list.php to go directly to your interests. BTW, any feedback will be welcome. Hmmm... Where to start... The general stuff on the Digital Divide is widely accessible via the net/Google... Specific stuff dealing with Canada ... A couple of places to start are the Journal of Community Informatics http://ci-journal.net which while an international journal, has a lot of Editorial and other connections to Canada and has a range of related articles dealing with Canada and international. You might also take a look at the website of the Canadian Alliance for Community Innovation and Networking (CRACIN) http://www.cracin.ca for a lot of related research materials.
