You might try Leroy Stone is he is still around working. He retired from Statistics Canada after some 50 years and was leading demographer and when I was his research assistant he studied working past 65 and aging populations in general. He is at the University of Montreal not far from New York.
In Canada ageism is constitutional protected from discrimination since 1982 and our Chart of rights and freedoms.
Here may be some contact info from LinkedIn then U Montreal.
He may be missing the media aspect but may be not.

Hello, This may be a bit off-topic, but I was wondering if anyone on this list knows of an expert/researcher who's looked at ageism in the media, more specifically negative stereotypes of older people in media representations, including countries other than the US. If so, could you please forward some names to me? I am looking for a speaker to propose for a US event in New York. Thanks, Nelida

My recommendation might be slightly different - Chef (2014). But it clearly showed how Twitter could tarnish someone's image to bits and then the same medium could also leverage a business to success. I believe it can work as an everyday example to study the relationship between society and mediated communication.
