BCLT is a research center at the University of California Berkeley, Boalt Hall School of Law. For the past nine years, BCLT has been rated by US News & World Report as the best intellectual property program in the country, in part because of the high quality, high impact research conducted by its faculty and students. BCLTs research includes intellectual property, electronic commerce, telecommunications regulation, cyberlaw, privacy and other areas of law that are affected by new technologies. MICROSOFT FELLOW (1 year term): Primary Responsibilities · research and writing of articles or reports of publishable quality on high technology issues, under the supervision of BCLT faculty · writing articles, white papers, and opinion pieces directed at audiences beyond academia · working with BCLT faculty and staff to organize workshops, conferences, talks, and meetings with lawyers, policymakers, and industry representatives · identifying and managing research projects with BCLT faculty · collaborating with JD, Ph.D. students and professors working on related projects · speaking at conferences and meetings, and to the press, about the research An ideal candidate for this position would have the following characteristics: · J.D. degree or relevant Ph.D. in science and technology policy · research experience · excellent communication, analytical and writing skills; · subject matter knowledge of intellectual property law and technology policy Compensation: $45,048 to $51,660 commensurate with experience. KAUFFMAN FOUNDATION LEGAL RESEARCH FELLOW & POLICY ANALYST (2 year term): Primary Responsibilities: · research on how all aspects of patent policy (including, e.g., scope of patentable subject matter, the nonobviousness standard, patent office procedures and infringement remedies) affect investment activity, company formation and growth. · detailed analysis of proposed patent reforms · development of policy recommendations based on the research and analysis · writing articles or reports of publishable quality · writing articles, white papers, and opinion pieces directed at audiences beyond academia · working with BCLT faculty and staff to organize workshops, conferences, talks, and meetings with lawyers, policymakers, and industry representatives · speaking at conferences and meetings, and to the press, about the research Requirements · J.D. degree · at least 2 years experience in the practice or teaching of intellectual property Law. · significant research experience · excellent communication, analytical, organizational and writing skills; · a background in Law and Economics or other field studying the relationship between intellectual property law and innovation · written work product on Patent law, including but not limited to articles, op-eds, testimony, court filings; Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience.
